International Needs Australia is seeking a new Board Member:

International Needs Australia (INA) is currently seeking a new Board Director to join our Board who feels a strong Christian calling to contribute to strengthening and empowering the life-changing work of INA around the world.

About INA

International Needs Australia (INA) is a Christian, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)- accredited, donor-funded international development organization that works with the poorest and most marginalised communities, especially women and children, to eliminate extreme poverty and its causes, regardless of affiliation. INA is different in our approach to international development and our engagement with Australian supporters because INA:

  • Is firmly grounded in our Christian values and strives for a just world where all people are treated equally to reach their God-given potential.
  • Is highly committed to locally-led development and has an innovative local partnership model that it has been refining over 50 years. As a result, INA works exclusively through local partner staff and volunteers and focuses on ensuring partner organizations develop and are truly sustainable.
  • Believes in poverty alleviation through a cross-sectoral and holistic approach to community development. This approach involves us partnering with donors and other agencies committed to holistic poverty alleviation and focusing on community-prioritised needs.
  • Focuses on women and children in five key partner-driven areas: Education, Health, Livelihoods, Climate Change and Gender.
  • Works in Southeast Asia, South Asia & Eastern Africa (currently Ethiopia, Uganda, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and the Philippines).
  • Conducts national education programs with Australian students that align with the Australian Department of Education School Curriculum to help youth find their personal purpose and increase empathy and understanding of global poverty and its solutions.
  • Brings supporters and in-country partners closer together and co-designs projects together with all relevant stakeholders to support innovation and ensure alignment.

About the role:

  • The INA Board currently consists of 7 Board Members and the INA CEO. The Board is looking for an experienced external Board Member, for a 3, 6 or 9-year term, who can bring skills, experience and advice in Fundraising and Marketing, and/or Strategy and Management to advance the mission of INA.
  • We are looking for a person with connections and networks to corporates, government, major donors or churches, to enable INA to increase our level of support to our local lead partners and the communities that we serve.
  • The Board meets (4-6 times a year) for a 90-minute virtual meeting.
  • There are two additional meetings each year comprising a day-long Strategy Day and a 1 ½ hour AGM, which are in-person meetings.
  • Board Members also participate in one Committee each based on their skills. Board Committees meet every 2-3 months (4-6 times a year) for a 90-minute virtual meeting.
