Our many interns and volunteers come from all spheres of life – students, retirees, career changers, professionals and the general public. They come from all states and some visit the office and others work from home. They have a strong desire to help improve the lives of the world’s poorest, and to improve their skills and networks.

From the get-go, I was given the opportunity to work alongside the organisation; in admin and a range of different departments such as Communications, Programs and Marketing. I was able to make a contribution to the work of INA, becoming involved within their projects and processes of impact.

My initial goal to intern with a non-government organisation, such as INA, was to develop a greater understanding of the impact they had on their partnered global communities. How they would develop projects to cater to the needs of these people, then how they would then execute their goals. I have been able to explore just this, furthering my understanding of the work of an NGO who work to alleviate poverty in all areas of the world.

My time at INA was fantastic! I was able to gain an insight and appreciation for the ins-and-outs of an international development organisation, particularly when INA organised a rapid Covid response to the crises in India and Nepal.

I learnt a lot during my short time at INA working in a cross-departmental manner with the team. This way, I was exposed to the different aspects of an international charity and how it all comes together to create meaningful change in the lives of vulnerable people.

I started volunteering at INA in 2018, my first year of university. Since then, I’ve seen the dedication, kindness, teamwork, intelligence, continual progression and hard work that it takes to make meaningful change in people’s lives who haven’t been blessed from birth with the same opportunities as most. Not only has volunteering at INA grown my mindset, strengthened my values and helped me become a better person but the staff and other volunteers at INA have been incredible to get to know and have helped me get practical experience that related to my university degree. Curriculum developers – primary and secondary

Will develop curriculum approaches and resources that link selected parts of the Australian Curriculum to the Sustainable Development Goals for use by schools:

  • Develop curriculum approach relating to the Australian Curriculum and Sustainable Development Goals (for online and face-to-face use).
  • Develop tools and resources for INA to use to easily develop Curriculum content.

Graphic designers

Develop a resource pack of collateral material for schools, donors, emails, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to:

  • Develop and design print and digital materials relating to INA-supported programs in the eight countries where we work.
  • Develop tools and resources for INA to use to easily develop content.

Video producer/editors

Will develop a resource pack of collateral videos for website, emails, donors, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to:

  • Develop videos relating to INA-supported programs in the eight countries where we work.
  • Develop tools and resources for INA to use to easily develop video content.

Social media

Develop a resource pack of collateral for Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to:

  • Develop a strategy to maximise reach to key target groups.
  • Leverage SEO, Analytics and online trends to improve engagement.

Web designers

Work with a Web Developer Intern and staff to co-develop a project to rebuild a contemporary ina.org.au website to:

  • Use WordPress platform.
  • Propose, negotiate, scope and implement agreed structure of a new website.

  • Review and develop strategy and policy in relation to INA’s focus on Health (Sustainable Development Goals).
  • Co-develop policy paper related to the above.
  • Review data and support program evaluation.

Engineering – water/environmental – Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Work with International Programs staff to:

  • Review and develop strategy and policy in relation to INA’s focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). (Sustainable Development Goals)
  • Review data and support program evaluation.

Livelihoods

Work with International Programs staff to:

  • Review and develop strategy and policy in relation to INA’s focus on sustainable livelihoods to help people stabilise (and grow income) their household finances, considering market review and noting impact of COVID-19. (Sustainable Development Goals)
  • Co-develop policy paper related to the above.
  • Review data and support program evaluation.
